feels like today.

free people spring.

I always love models free peoples uses, they have such a soft look. Plus they're copping my signature hairstyle, the disheveled "I took a swim does that count as a shower?" look. The clothes are usually pretty hit or miss for me, at times a little too eccentric hippie and heavy on the crochet and floral patterns, but this season they've got some off the shoulder slouchy t's and maxi skirts that I could definitely get down with if federal income taxes weren't getting the best of my benjamins.

a(broad) spectrum.

I've never been happier to cover somebody's shift. A group called Visions in Feminism held a fundraiser last night at the bar I work at (Science Club) to raise money for rehabilitating prostitutes and brought bellydancers, male and female burlesque dancers, a mariachi band and Spanish dancers along to perform. They drew in a massive crowd of intrigued spectators, and we might need to replace the floors because they absolutely tore it up. Needless to say, my service for the business crowd enjoying their 6pm dinners upstairs was under par, as I was in the back room watching the entire performance and taking photos. I was particularly entranced by the belly dancers' ethereality and costuming; I really wish that I could get away with wearing that many bells, sequins and beads on a daily basis. I also tried a new beer called Lindeman's Framboise which is a Belgian raspberry flavored lambic beer. I wouldn't drink too much, as it's extremely sweet, but sipping on it while I watched a male burlesque dancer strip down to his lamé leotard was utterly refreshing.

spring break(ing it down)

Back in D.C. after spring break with no tan but a few good stories. The roadtrip was interesting to say the least. I learned to drive stick in downtown Boston in a British Land Rover Defender (so the steering wheel was on the right side of the car and I was shifting with my left hand) only hours before I was scheduled to buckle up for a 8 hour roadtrip to two universities in Connecticut. Talk about being thrown into the deep end. Hours later, after a traumatizing situation that involved the car rolling backwards down the steepest street I've ever seen which was suddenly swarming with old men on walkers as if I was in some sort of video game, we arrived safely (or at least there are no confirmed causalities.) Much later that night I was enjoying a stranger's plate of poutine (french fries covered with mozzarella cheese and gravy) at a 24 hour, highway-side diner, only to find that my carb benefactor was none other than John Mayer. After devouring the majority of his poutine and some of his brother's french toast for good measure, he wasn't exactly serenading me with "Your body is a wonderland." I spent the next few days relaxing with my boyfriend on the Vineyard before hitting the road again to visit the University of Vermont. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of coming back to D.C., but the weather's warm and the cherry blossoms are out, so it's kind of hard not to enjoy. Getting back into the rhythm of things, which means I'll have some tunes coming your way as soon as I unpack my bags and restock my fridge. XXXXXXX

you are a cinema.

Currently working on a playlist for next friday. Heading back to Boston (hope the city's not tiring of me) to help host and DJ a silent disco at Tufts university with the Jack Wills crew, before heading to the season opener lacrosse game (and more importantly tailgate) at Trinity college, then co-hosting a seaside banger that night with Redbull and a music blog called stagsflow at Fairfield college. Taking a short intermission to detox, maybe spending a night or two on the Vineyard, before heading up to the University of Vermont to throw a party at one of the fraternities with the Jack Wills seasonnaires from UVM and St. Michael's.
Very excited!
Here's a taste of the playlist..
